Summary

Rizzoli & Isles are back! From New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen, this “shocking and fast-paced” (Karin Slaughter) thriller has Jane and Maura investigating a brutal murder with dire implications, and this time, with Jane’s intrepid mother, Angela, looking into a mystery of her own。

“Absolutely first rate—readers will be thrilled and delighted by this new Rizzoli & Isles outing!”—Shari Lapena, New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door

Mothers know best 。 。 。 But who will listen?

Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are plagued by what seems like a completely senseless murder。 Sofia Suarez, a widow and nurse who was universally liked by all her neighbors, lies bludgeoned to death in her own home。 But anything can happen behind closed doors, and Sofia seemed to have plenty of secrets in her last days, making covert phone calls to old contacts and traceless burner phones。 When Jane finally makes a connection between Sofia and the victim of a hit-and-run months earlier, the case only grows more blurry。 What exactly was Sofia involved in? One thing is clear: The killer will do anything it takes to keep their secret safe。

Meanwhile, Angela Rizzoli hasn’t had a decent night’s sleep in all the years since her daughter became a homicide detective。 Maybe the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree。 Nothing in her neighborhood gets by Angela - not the gossip about a runaway teenager down the block and definitely not the strange neighbors who have just moved in across the street。 Angela’s sure there’s no such thing as coincidence in her sleepy suburb。 If only Jane would listen; instead she writes off Angela’s concerns as the result of an overactive imagination。 But Angela’s convinced there’s a real wolf in her vicinity, and her cries might now fall on deaf ears。

With so much happening on the Sofia case, Jane and Maura already struggle to see the forest for the trees, but will they lose sight of something sinister happening much closer to home?

Listen To Me is the thirteenth book in the bestselling Rizzoli & Isles series about a ballsy Boston homicide detective and her best friend, a cool and sophisticated Medical Examiner。 I used to love this series, but it’s five years since the last one, and the style has changed completely - I can’t work out whether it’s my taste that has changed, or if the author’s decided to switch from gritty dark thrillers to a more comedic cosy style to tie in with the TV show。 You could easily read this as a Listen To Me is the thirteenth book in the bestselling Rizzoli & Isles series about a ballsy Boston homicide detective and her best friend, a cool and sophisticated Medical Examiner。 I used to love this series, but it’s five years since the last one, and the style has changed completely - I can’t work out whether it’s my taste that has changed, or if the author’s decided to switch from gritty dark thrillers to a more comedic cosy style to tie in with the TV show。 You could easily read this as a stand-alone but if you then went back to the early books you could find them quite disturbing by comparison。Jane Rizzoli and her partner Barry Frost investigate the murder of a hospital nurse killed in an apparent burglary gone wrong。 Their enquiries lead them to Amy Antrim, a young student seriously injured in a hit and run accident months before, whose father is an acquaintance of Maura’s。 Then Amy reports that a stranger has been stalking her - how do these differing crimes connect? Meanwhile Jane’s mother Angela grows increasingly suspicious of her new neighbours…On the plus side, this wasn’t about a serial killer, had a carefully constructed plot that kept me guessing, and was easy to read without excessive gore。 Jane is determined and intuitive as ever, and Maura played her part although she was reduced to a fairly minor support character this time。What I didn’t enjoy was the large chunk of the book told from Angela’s first person present POV as she spies on her neighbours, gossips about her so-called friends, whines about Jane not taking her seriously and meddles in relationships that are none of her business。 She really is the most annoying character - flattered by the attention of the bodybuilding narcissist over the road while claiming to adore out of sight, out of mind new boyfriend Vince。 This part of the plot was a cross between Desperate Housewives and Scooby-Doo, but it wasn’t actually amusing, just silly。The main mystery was more intriguing, and I was satisfied enough with the resolution。 There wasn’t too much of Jane’s home life or Maura agonising about her relationship (it’s there but it’s bearable unlike in some of the earlier books。) Overall I quite liked this but it’s nowhere near as gripping as her earlier efforts。 3。5 rounded down for too much Angie, not enough Maura。Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK for the ARC。 I am posting this honest review voluntarily。Listen To Me is published on July 7th。 。。。more

I recently finished watching the 7 seasons of Rizzoli & Isles。 So I was super excited to get an advance copy of Rizzoli & Isles: Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen。 This was a great book。 I was able to picture the characters so vividly in my head。 The story is told from various character perspectives, and it really worked。 I could hear Angela in my head (the Lorraine Bracco character from the TV series)。 It was so much fun to read and picture each character。 The story also shows how tedious police w I recently finished watching the 7 seasons of Rizzoli & Isles。 So I was super excited to get an advance copy of Rizzoli & Isles: Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen。 This was a great book。 I was able to picture the characters so vividly in my head。 The story is told from various character perspectives, and it really worked。 I could hear Angela in my head (the Lorraine Bracco character from the TV series)。 It was so much fun to read and picture each character。 The story also shows how tedious police work can be and the lack of helpful information from victims or witnesses。 The mystery was very good。 I did not see the ending coming。 I cannot wait to read more in this series。 Five out of five stars!I would recommend this series, this author, and watch the TV series if you get a chance!#RizzoliIslesListentoMe #NetGalley @atrandom @tessgerritsen 。。。more

If you are a fan of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles mysteries, you will be delighted with the latest installment, Listen to Me。 In this book we alternate between Jane Rizzoli, Mara Isles, and Jane's mother Angela as they investigate a series of puzzling events。 The first, Sofia Suarez was found brutally murdered in her own home after returning from work at a nearby hospital。 Sofia was beloved by her neighbors and the murder seems senseless until a burner phone is turned up along with a series If you are a fan of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles mysteries, you will be delighted with the latest installment, Listen to Me。 In this book we alternate between Jane Rizzoli, Mara Isles, and Jane's mother Angela as they investigate a series of puzzling events。 The first, Sofia Suarez was found brutally murdered in her own home after returning from work at a nearby hospital。 Sofia was beloved by her neighbors and the murder seems senseless until a burner phone is turned up along with a series of untraceable calls made by Sofia before she died。 After some intense investigation, Jane and Mara are able to make a connection between Sofia and a hit and run victim from an accident months earlier。 While the investigation is underway, Angela is preoccupied with missing her romantic partner who is away taking care of his sister。 Angela spends a good bit of time at the window, noticing an odd couple who move in at the end of the street。 She's also concerned with a friend's missing daughter and begs Jane to take action。 When Jane finally scrapes together a few minutes, she finds that the situation is way more complicated than it seems。。 The story moves along in typical Rizzoli and Isles fashion with humor and suspense that make for a fun, exciting read。 Many thanks to Net Galley for the chance to read an ARC。 。。。more

After a long break, Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are back。 We see a lot more of Angela in the book and somewhat less of Maura。 Jane and the crew are investigating the beating death of a well loved ICU nurse while Angela has taken upon her herself to become the guardian of the neighborhood。 This is a great series that will keep you up all night trying to quickly read to the end to solve the mystery。Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book for review。

This is an engrossing novel by a talented storyteller, who adeptly juggles a host of subplots。 In addition to those mentioned earlier, there is one about Tricia, a teenager Angie fears may have been abducted, and a college student, Amy, who believes that someone is stalking her。 After she is nearly killed in a hit-and-run accident, Amy undergoes emergency surgery。 As Jane and Barry continue their inquiry into the Suarez homicide, they come across tantalizing clues that lead them down a dark and twisted path。The book's chief flaw is its melodramatic conclusion。 Although it is entertaining to watch Jane and Barry tackle this challenging case, the big reveal is overwrought and unconvincing。 In addition, the author moves far afield when she scrambles—somewhat heavy-handedly—to tie up the remaining loose ends。 That being said, Tess Gerritsen's fans will enjoy "Listen to Me" for its lively and amusing banter, Jane's impressive ability to make connections between seemingly unrelated facts, and Angie's insistence on heeding the slogan: "If you see something, say something。" 。。。more

A Difficult Case While Pestered by Her MotherThe novel has two introductory chapters before the main storyline thread begins。 The novel starts with a traffic accident that left a pedestrian, Amy Antrim, severely injured leaving her with a long recovery effort for her to walk again。 Then, the main storyline switches to Rizzoli’s mother, Angela。 She describes the neighborhood where she has lived for 40 years and her current neighbors。 In that description, she introduces two subthreads, one of a ne A Difficult Case While Pestered by Her MotherThe novel has two introductory chapters before the main storyline thread begins。 The novel starts with a traffic accident that left a pedestrian, Amy Antrim, severely injured leaving her with a long recovery effort for her to walk again。 Then, the main storyline switches to Rizzoli’s mother, Angela。 She describes the neighborhood where she has lived for 40 years and her current neighbors。 In that description, she introduces two subthreads, one of a neighbor’s missing 16-year-old daughter and the other of new neighbors who, in Angela’s opinion, are very reclusive and act suspiciously。 She spends much time letting Jane and the local police know about these issues。 Finally, the main storyline thread starts with Jane, her partner, Barry, and Maura at the murder scene of Sophia Suarez, a widowed nurse。 The novel proceeds from this broad start。The main storyline thread starts as a very puzzling mystery。 No reason at home or at work sheds any light on why anyone would want a recently widowed wife dead。 Leads were hard to discover, and, then, their meaning only added to the mystery。 Then, Amy’s hit and run accident turns sinister and drags Jane into another investigation。 Competing for Jane’s attention was her mother who continually asking for her help on the missing teenager and the suspicious behavior of her neighbors across the street。 Jane’s mother does not live within Boston Police’s jurisdiction。 The local police apply pressure on Jane to convince her mother to curtail her constant reports to them。 These two subthreads occupy significant portions of this novel。 My attention was captured to see how the murder, the stalking of Amy, and what was going on in Jane’s mother’s neighborhood would be solved。First, about the B-storyline, I only have read the previous novel in this 13-novel series, so my comments are based upon this limited exposure。 Besides Rizzoli’s interaction with her partner and her current thought, the B-storyline has the main storyline thread the also doubles as a B-storyline thread—her interaction with her mother。 This thread is the very extensive on Jane’s relationship with her mother in this novel。 The second thread in the B-storyline was between Jane and Maura on a personal level。 It exhibits that not all relationships are harmonious all the time。 This tread for me provided much insight into Maura’s character。 These two threads increased my enjoyment in reading this novel。As for the aspects that can reading a novel unenjoyable, there is very little in this novel that should offend readers。 Intimacy is a green with just a drop of yellow due to live styles。 Profanity and impious language are just a little more yellowish green。 Lastly, most of the violence is described in the less edgy after the fact。 I believe that the vast majority of readers will not find any of these areas objectionable。I did not find any aspect of this novel that I did not like。 There were many positives with the author’s ability to keep my interest when progress was so slow through most of the novel。 While I did not see it at the start, there are several instances where Jane cuts through the obscuring facts to see what really happened。 This storyline wouldn’t let me to stop reading。 By the end of the novel, all loose ends were tied up, including issues raised in the B-storyline。 The author has reaffirmed my author rating of Must-Read。 I do recommend reading this novel, and I am looking forward to reading further books in this genre by this author。 As I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel, I rate it with five stars。I received a free e-book version of this novel through NetGalley from Ballantine Books。 My review is based only by my own reading experience of this book。 I wish to thank Ballantine Books for the opportunity to read and review this novel。 。。。more

Rizzoli & Isles: Listen to Me is the 13th book in Tess Gerritsen's fan favorite series Rizzoli & Isles。 Years ago this was one of my favorite series, but then I switched to primarily reading romance books。 Though I still love my romances, I now have a renewed interest in mystery and thrillers。 This book was the perfect vehicle with which to reacquaint myself with Rizzoli and Isles。 I started this yesterday and I've already finished it。 What a fun ride it was! I almost canceled my attendance at an Independence Day party to finish it, but really, they were serving steak, so。。。Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are called in to investigate the brutal murder of Sofia Suarez, a nurse and widow who was well liked by everyone who knew her。 Yet she was bludgeoned to death with a hammer in her home; was it a home invasion gone awry, or was it something more sinister? It's soon discovered Sofia was making calls to a burner phone and contacting old acquaintances, but why? Jane sees a connection between her death and the hit-and-run victim of an accident months ago, which makes things about as clear as mud。 Apparently someone is willing to kill in order to keep secrets covered。 While all this is keeping Jane and Maura busy, Jane's mother Angela Rizzoli is noticing strange goings-on in her quiet neighborhood。 Friends aren't who she thinks they are, strange new neighbors have moved in across the street and a teenage girl is missing。 Angela tries to convince her daughter there's something wrong, but Jane doesn't believe her and thinks it's Angela's imagination。 Well, Angela's learned some things from her daughter over the years, and she WILL find out what's going on!Rizzoli and Isles were just as likable and interesting as always, and I was happy to meet up with them again。 Their case was fascinating。 But ladies, hate to break it to you, but Angela stole the show! This was HER book! She was a hoot。 She had me laughing, she was just so funny。 At first, I was thinking all that was going on was in her imagination, and boredom from her boyfriend being out of town。 But Angela is apparently one smart and gutsy cookie。 Like mother, like daughter。 Her Scrabble games with neighbors were hugely entertaining, as was her feud with former best friend Agnes。 Angela's story was truly my favorite part of the book。 Now, that's not to say the rest of the book was dull。。。not by a longshot! The main mystery was finely crafted and kept me on the edge of my seat。 I had absolutely no idea how totally seemingly unrelated discoveries could be tied together。 There just wasn't any way they could be connected。 But when the truth was revealed I was, well, gobsmacked! I didn't see that coming in a million years!!! Truly, I could not figure it out; that's the sign of a good mystery。 It was nice being reunited with Jane and Maura。 I haven't read this series in years, so it was like everything was new again。 I didn't recall Jane being married with a child, nor Maura's relationship with a priest。 (I whispered that last word!) I will not make the mistake of losing touch with this series again。I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley。 I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own。 。。。more

Indeed, Jane has enough on her plate with the completely senseless murder of a popular nurse, found bludgeoned to death in her home。 But as with most people, things are never quite as they seem on the surface and it appears that the more they dig, the more they find。 But will they find enough to solve the crime? It's a tale of secrets and lies, and a healthy dose of duplicitous behaviour to boot。 A real doozy for our crimefighting duo。 It's been a while since the last book, and with the TV series also finished, I've kinda missed the characters。Aside: The TV series is great too if you fancy it, although it veers from the books a tad。。。The plot thickens as it twists and turns around and about and, although I did guess something early, the majority, and indeed the crux, had me grasping all the way through until finally, all was revealed and I was left wholly satisfied。 And a little smug for my guess panning out。 Writing is just as tight as always, the main characters' personal lives are coming on as you would expect but never overshadow the crime(s) being investigated。 Writing is tight and there is no superfluous waffle to be found。All in all, a cracking addition to one of my favourite series, just please don't leave it as long un til the next。。。 My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book。 。。。more

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review。The first Rizzoli & Isles book in several years!I love this series and was excited to read this book。 It started out slow for me, but it picked up speed about a quarter of the way through。 I wasn't a huge fan of Angela's POV, and, as often is the case with multiple narrators, at least one of them is unreliable。 I hope Tess Gerritsen continues this series sooner than five years from now。 I am always up for a new Rizzoli & Isles。 I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review。The first Rizzoli & Isles book in several years!I love this series and was excited to read this book。 It started out slow for me, but it picked up speed about a quarter of the way through。 I wasn't a huge fan of Angela's POV, and, as often is the case with multiple narrators, at least one of them is unreliable。 I hope Tess Gerritsen continues this series sooner than five years from now。 I am always up for a new Rizzoli & Isles。 。。。more

Yay - first Rizzoli and Isles book in a while and it doesn’t disappoint。 Told from several points of view and with multiple storylines, Gerritsen does a good job of keeping momentum on all of them and giving satisfying solutions for all of them。 Jane is looking into the murder of a nurse that may be connected to events years earlier。 Her mom is driving her crazy convinced first a local teen is in trouble and then that something is up with the new neighbors。 Great mystery and great to catch up wi Yay - first Rizzoli and Isles book in a while and it doesn’t disappoint。 Told from several points of view and with multiple storylines, Gerritsen does a good job of keeping momentum on all of them and giving satisfying solutions for all of them。 Jane is looking into the murder of a nurse that may be connected to events years earlier。 Her mom is driving her crazy convinced first a local teen is in trouble and then that something is up with the new neighbors。 Great mystery and great to catch up with our favorite characters。 Looking forward to more in this series。Thanks to the publisher for a review copy via NetGalley。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

Rizzoli & Isles return!Tess Gerritsen is back with her popular Rizzoli & Isles #13 series with Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura and some fun with Jane's mom, Angela, in LISTEN TO ME。It has been five years since the last book; however, no worries about reading the past books; you will catch up and can be read as a standalone。Alternating POVs, we hear from Jane (detective), Maura (medical examiner), Angela (Jane's mom), and Amy (small part, a victim of a hit and Rizzoli & Isles return!Tess Gerritsen is back with her popular Rizzoli & Isles #13 series with Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura and some fun with Jane's mom, Angela, in LISTEN TO ME。It has been five years since the last book; however, no worries about reading the past books; you will catch up and can be read as a standalone。Alternating POVs, we hear from Jane (detective), Maura (medical examiner), Angela (Jane's mom), and Amy (small part, a victim of a hit and run)。 Past and present。 The case: ICU nurse, Sofia Suarez, has been bludgeoned to death。 Why would anyone target a respected nurse well-liked by her friends and neighbors? Sofia was guarding a dangerous secret — a secret that may have led the killer straight to her。 The killer will do anything it takes to keep their secret safe。 Angela Rizzoli: Jane's mom is a busybody in her neighborhood (the watcher) and sees and hears everything。 You gotta love her! However, she continues to blow up Jane's phone with reports driving her nuts。 MOTHERS KNOW BEST BUT WHO WILL LISTEN?Jane of course ignores her (in the beginning)。 Something's wrong with the new neighbors, and she's determined to find out what's happening。 She says someone has been kidnapped。 But Jane has other worries。Angela's quirky personality is witty, and she wants to help everyone。 She adds a lot of laughs to the novel and constantly calls Jane, questioning her abilities as a detective。 Jane and partner Barry Frost are investigating the nurse's murder and the abduction of another woman。 Jane and Maura dig deep into solving a homicide and its connection to a random hit-and-run of a young girl who is being stalked。 Amy, the physician's daughter who ran the ICU where Sofia worked, was involved in a hit-and-run accident months earlier。Are all three threads connected, and how?Gerritsen effortlessly switches between the parallel storylines, and although they are both compelling and complex, Angela steals the show, and you cannot help but be drawn to her with her dramatic flair to solve the mystery。 EVERY HOUSE, EVERY FAMILY, HIDES A SECRET。 It was great spending time with Jane and Maura, as they are immersed in the brutal murder case; however, I have to say Jane's mom, Angela was my favorite character in this book。 Maura's role was not as prominent in this one since Angela's storyline took a more significant part。 The burning question is, could Angela have her own spin-off series? A solid mystery suspense crime thriller, an engaging series with relatable characters。 Action-packed, suspenseful, fast-paced, engaging, and witty。 As always, Tess is a pro at maneuvering forensics and police procedurals, well-developed relatable characters, and twisty plots to keep you glued to the pages。 Fans will devour this one, and new fans will be ready to jump on board the R&I train。 LISTEN TO ME is an excellent addition to the series, and I highly recommend all of them。A special thank you to #RandomHouse #Ballantine and #NetGalley for an ARC to read, enjoy, and review。 Blog Review Posted @ www。JudithDCollins。com @JudithDCollins | #JDCMustReadBooksMy Rating: 4 Stars ✨✨✨✨Pub Date: July 5, 2022 July 2022 Must-Read Books 。。。more

Huge fan of Tess Gerritsen and this book didn't disappoint。 It is the 13th in the Rizzoli and Isles and series but can easily be read as a standalone。The characters as you would expect are all well written and the story moves along at a good pace。 I love the way it is told from the perspectives of different characters, especially from Angela, Janes mum, it's really good to hear her story and get even more of a feel to her character and her insights。,There are lots of twists and turns along the w Huge fan of Tess Gerritsen and this book didn't disappoint。 It is the 13th in the Rizzoli and Isles and series but can easily be read as a standalone。The characters as you would expect are all well written and the story moves along at a good pace。 I love the way it is told from the perspectives of different characters, especially from Angela, Janes mum, it's really good to hear her story and get even more of a feel to her character and her insights。,There are lots of twists and turns along the way, Rizzoli gets led on few different trails but the way they all come together at the end is expertly done。If you are looking for an easy to read crime drama which will keep you guessing then this one is for you 。。。more
